Plumbbob
I currently have two brews fermenting at 16 degrees. Both started on Mon 29 April. The Coopers Draught with Beer Enhancer fermented for 5 days and the air lock stopped bubbling. The Real Ale with Sugar is still fermenting and bubbling every 25 secs, after 9 days. Is this normal and does the fermentation time vary when using beer enhancer or sugar? Thank you. Plumbbob.
Hairy
Welcome to the forum Plumbbob! Fermentation time varies due to numerous factors - the 'sugars' used, the health of the yeast, the amount of yeast, the type of yeast, temperature of the ferment etc. Also, the main difference between BE1 and sugar is the added Maltodextrin. This is not fermentable whereas sugar is fully fermentable. Plus don't rely on the airlock for determining fermentation. It is simply a sign that gas is escaping through it. The airlock can still bubble when it has finished fermenting and it could be silent whilst it is fermenting.
