headed off to watch the game for the kids. scooped up a bunch of change to drop into the Royal Children's Hospital appeal shakers on the way in and saw a pretty good first half of even football before carlton stopped making the easy things look difficult and focused a lot more in the third quarter and pretty much won it from there. massive crowd, barely a seat free and as a neutral observer there's a lot to like about michael voss' blues. and not all doom and gloom for the roos either, had they kicked a lot straighter it would have been a lot closer than it ended up.

So it's Gather Round in Adelaide this week. I'm pleasantly surprised at how successful ticket sales are going. Last I heard only two games haven't sold out yet - Syd/Rich and Freo/Suns. The latter hardly surprising as both teams have smaller memberships and they're teams furthest from Adelaide.

Any of you interstaters heading here for games?

I was actually thinking of it before I found out every team was there. Everything sells out and gets real expensive. I would rather do it a normal weekend without every man and his dog around travelling at the same time.

That's fair enough, Uhtred. I'm not a fan of crowds and in particular queues.
I believe they've sold 50,000 of 190,000 tickets to visitors to the state. Next week SA is hosting LIV golf and we just had Supercars and The Fringe in March. It's certainly boosting the morale of people here to have good things happening after the last couple of years of restrictions.

@Malter Whitethat's good news isn't SA the festival state? Was it not on the old number plates? it's normal for people to be out and about not locked up. I can put up with the occasional crowd and so on but a weekend of all AFL games in one city is a bit much for me.

Yes, we are called the festival state and it was on the plates. You're right about the lock ups. I liked what our Premier said today about luring the footy and golf events and returning the V8s ie. The hospitality industry probably suffered the most during restrictions. This is a little payback for the hardships suffered.

Friday night double header, what a great idea. Even putting a game on that would have been usually in the early or late sunday game slot like Freo/Gold Coast is a really good way to start friday night.

I'm not sure what the powers that be think but my point of view says no to double headers. The Melb/Ess game was the curtain raiser to the Port/Dogs game. Many empty seats at the early game because they were bought by Port supporters for the late game. Then when the Port game started it was p155ing down and more seats were vacant.

i liked the way they did the friday night double headers at 2 different grounds but i totally agree with you in that having the other double headers at the same ground left too many empty seats for both games. there's talk of at least one winery game next season so i'm sure the AFL will have learned some lessons.

Oh yes! Double headers, separate grounds I like, like, like! I'm sorry I misunderstood your previous comment.

The alternative would be to ticket the games separately or have some sort of exchange system that would allow people to put tickets back into the system after the first game if they're not staying for the second one and those only going to the second game could grab a ticket. Might allow for a bigger crowd at both games.

@Otto Von Blotto

You would think with common sense that's how it would be done. I realise it's a big venue to find and kick out people who have ticket for the finished game.

How many venues have colour wristbands etc for time limit things? Or even the fact that the next person comes along and says security this pelican is in my seat.

  Oh you have the ticket for the last game sir we shall escort you from the venue.

In saying that you would have to be mad to want to sit on those crappy fold out plastic  seats for more than 1 game.

They can't be any worse than the make your bum sore express 5000 seats at the Gabba. It's actually a part of the reason I mainly stay home and watch it on TV rather than actually go to the games.

Yeah the atmosphere is good for the occasion but if cant get the seats you want it becomes an inconvenience.
