Well this is a bit embarrassing I have 2 preserve jars of yeast slurry and I got them out of the fridge and they sat on the bench for an hour or so and the ambient temp was quite warm.  Well the yeast did it's thing and when I came around to opening the jars the lids have deformed I'm assuming to the pressure created in the jars and now I can't get the lids off...... I've tried large wrench, rubber gloves, and the old rubber bands around the tops- and I have mixed all the ingredients into the FV and waiting to pitch the yeast - Any tips or help in getting these jars open greatly appreciated.

Sorry mate I missed the call out.
I had a similar one today where I popped the swing top bottle with the harvested yeast, which was under pressure, and it decided to go everywhere. Luckily I opened outside!

I have had more luck with yeast when I save it in a container and instead of the lid, I cover it with sanitized cling wrap and a rubber band 👍

Crisis averted. A massive wrench came to the rescue...might have to wait until I need the yeast from the fridge next time especially when it's so warm.

I normally just pitch mine straight out of the fridge, works well with no ill effects. I remember Otto saying he does the same thing. I don’t believe you need to wait for it to get up to room temp. Sounds safer as well by the sounds lucky there was no explosion 💥

OK time to fess up, sorry fellow (ex) kits and bits people. I have moved to the dark side and completed my 1st AG attempt today! A modest attempt at a pale ale with some Veloria Schooner, Munich, Caramunich and a dash of Carapils. Bittered with Centennial and some whirlpool additions of Centennial, Cascade and Citra. Went well with a few bumps along the way. I have a cube of AG goodness that will be ready for the fermenter tomorrow.

Except the smack pack ain't swelling.

Yeah, that has happened twice to me with the Wyeast kits. Slapped the b@stard a few times but didn't bust the smaller sachet inside. Ended up cutting it and chucking the lot into a starter (1388, for a Duvel), it was going nicely and somehoqw "escaped" out of the PET bottle.

Apart from an English Ale I haven't had much luck with Wyeast. .. 😖

That looks a cracking recipe fella.  What ABV will it come out? I might tuck that away for winter.

I like the old school use of Pride Of Ringwood. Something I'll be doing more of.

I thought it was an interesting choice compared to EKG, Fuggles, Bramling Cross, etc.  However, I can understand the using leftovers vibe.  You and @disgruntled might have seen my recent Aussie Hoegaarden which was bittered with 17g of Pride of Ringwood for 60 minutes because that was what I had.  Also did a more traditional 10g of Saaz at 15 minutes too.  That beer is still carbonating, so I have not tried it yet.  But the sample tube tasted a rougher bitterness than my previous version done with Magnum as the 60 minute boil hop.

Yep sure did see your recipe. Keep us updated when you have a glass.

In regard to the Pride Of Ringwood, I just want to get the feel of brewing an Aussie lager or ale. And put away all the extra hop additions. Just to hone my skills I suppose and have a nice unassuming beer on tap.

Sorry I missed this too @Mickep.  I had the same issue with a reagent jar once so now I get them out and crack the lid to break the seal and any pressure then put it back into the fridge until I have the brew ready to pitch.
