Farlow
Howdy folks, I notice Coopers is now selling light and dark crystal malt grains on their website, quite a few of the recipes call for crystal malt grains but dont specify if you need to use light or dark. How do you know which one to use? is it as simple as using light crystal for lagers and pale ales? Examples of recipes im looking at are Cooper XPA, Turbo Charged American Pale Ale & Nut Brown Ale
Hairy
If it just states "crystal malt" then I would work on the basis that it is referring to light crystal.

See the replies above. You can also grab the Coopers Recipe Spreadsheet and find (Ctrl F) the term dark crystal to find several of the recipes that specifically use that malt.
