James Lao
Hi Legends, Was wondering what people’s preferences were for pale malt - maltsters etc., for doing pale ales / IPA’s? Since starting doing partials I have been mainly using Maris Otter, but was thinking of changing it up a bit and thinking of using some Aussie or kiwi types / brands. Simpsons v Gladfield v Joe White etc Cheers James
Hairy
If you want something less malty than MO then I suggest Gladfield American Ale Malt. I use it in my American or Australian Pale ales.
Journeyman
I use Coopers Ale malt as my base malt in partials and specialty malts for the character of the wort. I got some MO recently to give it a go but I've used golden promise a few times and that worked well That was ~300g GP with 750g CA. In the batch with MO I also got some American Ale malt to try. That will be in the next batch.
Aussiekraut
I use MO for my dark ales and most SMASH brews. If I need "regular" pale malt, I use Barrett Burston.

James Lao
Thanks for the replies, Am thinking of going with an Aussie or NZ malt this time. It will only save a dollar or 2 but it’s good to mix it up eh! Cheers James
