Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - 12 December.

Ballistic Beer Co. - Mele Kalikimaka - Double Hawaiian Haze.

Very hazy in the glass, tropical fruit on the nose.

I get mango and pineapple tastes and quite a smooth beer, probably the mouthfeel is from the oats. 8% ABV but no harsh alcohol taste.

Enjoyable.

7.5/10.

Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - 11 December.

All Inn Brewing – What’s Up My Grinches Vanilla Milk Stout – 5.5% ABV

Yeah, this is a good ‘un.

Nice chocolatey aroma.

Smooth chocolate and coffee flavour. The sweetness of the vanilla and the lactose, which is a low sweetness sugar that does not ferment, offsets the harsher bite of the other ingredients. 8/10. PS behind the beer is 23L of Blonde Ale on its way to kegs.

Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - 12 December.

Ballistic Beer Co – Mele Kalikimaka Double Hawaiian Haze – 8.0% ABV

Lovely tropical aroma.  Pineapple, passionfruit, citrus.

Hazy-as.

Smooth drinking.  Zesty flavour.  Too easy to drink for an 8% beer.  I would like to taste-test this one against the 1st and 9th.  I am giving this one 8/10

Two Birds Brewing - Total Eclipse of the Hop XPA.

XPA featuring the new Eclipse hop.

Pine and citrus notes. I don't know whether I am a great fan of this hop. I actually tried it in the Coopers ROTM and have it on tap at present.

6/10.

This is just me, and my own personal tastes. I'm so glad I didn't go for one of these advent calenders. I would've been so disappointed finding one sour beer let alone two or three. How is this even beer? It belongs on fish and chips. I'm betting it's a fad that will disappear quickly like neipas.

Each to their own.

I think the popularity of advent calendars is dying. Their days are numbered!

The first mouthful was certainly "whoa!".  Then I felt that my taste-buds became accustomed to the flavour and subsequent sips were more enjoyable.

This is commonly called, numbing the taste buds so they will accept whatever you put on them. 😄

I had a mate working in a craft pub. He kept trying to get me to drink saisons. Each time they got a new one it was, "No, no, this isn't like the other ones, this is good!" I'd taste, use both hands to unpucker my lips and take a swig of drinkable beer to try and apologise to my mouth. After the 3rd time I just said, "Bullshit, give me an IPA." (or whatever other actual beer was on tap) 😄

Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - 16 December.

Nomad Brewing Co. - Rudolph's Little Helper - Tropical Hoppy Amber Ale.

Nice amber colour, seems a little under-carbonated.

Quite malty, not getting a lot of hops and no tropical flavour. Not the best so far of the calendar.

5.5/10

Nomad Brewing Co –Rudolph’s Little Helper Tropical Hoppy Amber Ale – 5.5% ABV

Very fruity aroma.  Strawberry-like, which I think is unusual.

Glorious colour.

Good bitterness.  Nice malty flavour.  Gee, this is a good beer. I love a nice Amber Ale 8/10

Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - 17 December.

Yull's Brews - Eugene - Umeboshi Lager.

Slightly fruity aroma. Very pale in the glass.

Quite a crisp lager, a bit dry. Interesting flavour profile said to suit noodles! Contains apricots, Umeshu and Umeboshi (yeah had to Google those 2). Quite different.

7/10.

Gotta say, I was worried about the Beer Cartel calendar being a parade of new world IPAs for a while there, but the last week has had excellent variety!

Same here. After the 3rd NEIPA in the first week or so, I started to get worried.

Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - 19 December.

Boatrocker Brewers and Distillers - Life - Barleywine.

Yes if you were worried about a succession of NEIPA's this 1 certainly isn't.

Deep amber colour.

I am getting toffee and maybe a little banana. Quite sweet. 8.5% ABV packs a punch.

I am not a fan of the style, but with that said this is probably a reasonable barleywine.

6.5/10.

Beer Cartel Advent Calendar - 19 December.

Boatrocker Brewers & Distillers –LIFE Barleywine – 8.5% ABV

Caramel aroma.

Heavy flavour.  Dense mouthfeel.  Probably good by an open fireplace.  Tastes like it needs more bitterness.  Good to try one, but I will not be running out to by a slab of it.  6/10

Some ingredients for tomorrow's brew mixing day in background.
