The Termite
After a lot of years break, I finally got the urge to get back into to brewing, thank you to the China virus. I mixed the brew up put the yeast in, next day not bubbling, waited till midday got some fresh yeast from the shop. Now 24 hrs later still no action. what can I do? Still smells OK. Lab Cat
what brew kit and yeast? Did you check the use by? Some brews or yeasts don't show much if any visible action. Some take a bit of time to get going. Where have you stored the fermenter and what temp is it at? If your fermenter is too cool, the yeast could be dormant. The Termite
I brewed Coopers draught, cant check the date as the garbos emptied the bin today. The yeast I bought from the shop expires 09/21. I have it on the back veranda temp between 24° C and 30°C. No krausen, no airlock activity, the yeast I bought from shop is brewer yeast, all they had. I have used brewer yeast in the past with no problems, some time you got to make do in the middle of Aust.
Titan
Do you still have the yeast that came with the kit? I would wait another 24hrs then pitch the kit yeast.

Is there any condensation on the lid that indicates It is kicking off and maybe take a sample with the hydrometer to see if it is fermenting without much Krausen if any do you know what the original gravity was. What did you add to the can malt, sugar?
MitchellScott
Take a hydrometer sample to determine definitely if it is fermenting or not. Don't rely on things like the airlock to determine if you are fermenting. One small leak is all it takes for the airlock to do nothing. Although you should have a Krausen forming, I would be checking the SG and going from there.
The Termite
Thanks, first reading 1040 Saturday, today 1010, yes there was condensation under the lid. I added 500 gms of Coopers brew enhancer 1. I bought new lid seal and grommet from our local hardware, checked the air lock not really tight fit.
