JoelR
HI, I'm new to the site, and attempting my second run at home brewing, but I'm a bit confused. A few years ago I bought a bunch of equipment for home brewing, and I can't remember how to use it all haha. I've got a plastic tub that doesn't seal, and then a glass carboy with a bung/airlock. With the Cooper's kit, should I mix into the plastic tub, then immediately transfer to the carboy? Or should I skip the tub and attempt to mix in the carboy? I seem to recall last time, I did everything in the plastic tub and let it sit for a week or more until the foaming went down, then transfered to the carboy with the hydrometer and thermometer, and then once it had settled, eventually bottled. But the instruction with this kit doesn't give any indication of when to transfer. My other question is regarding the sugar. I am adding sugar to the mix as per the suggestion, does that mean I can skip on the sugar when I go to bottle, or is more sugar required then to make the beer carbonate? Can I use the same sugar, if more is required?
brianc6
welcome back joel when you say a plastic tub do you mean with a tap or just a pail, i would be guessing here haven't used glass tbh mate prob better one for pb or muddy but me personally i would mix my brew can sugar malt which ever your using in your tub then pour into carboy fill to 23 litres fit bung and airlock 1/2 filled with sterile solution leave sit for a week to 10 days then you can siphon into your bottles with either carbo drops or bulk prime bud [cool]
Squishy
Joel Welcome back to the brewing community[biggrin] [biggrin] Personally mate I just leave in the plastic fermenter drum but mine has a lid with a seal and an airlock. The ever helpful Muddy will probably suggest using cling wrap over the to of the plastic drum for at least 3 days the transfer to the carboy if you require (He has MASSIVE airlock phobia's[lol] [lol] ) As for question 2 you need to add more sugar to get carbonation, Drops are convenient or if you want to use dextrose bulk priming would be the go
