Malter White
I've been on the look out for 1 litre beer steins for a little while (at a resonable price). It'll allow me to pour off a long neck of home brew in one steady motion and hopefully reduce the amount of sediment I'm consuming i.e. reduce my flatulence as well. I remember a contributor to this forum mentioned Aldi usually sell them for Oktoberfest. I've forgotten who it was but thank you to that contributor. Well, I took a look at Aldi's upcoming specials for Sept. 18 and there they were 1 litre steins and 1 litre of beer $13.99 - I got more excited than when I found Dad's porno stash when I was 15. Joy soon turned to dismay as I realised Aldi don't do liquor sales in Adelaide and I'd be unable to get my steins - It was like when Mum found me viewing the aforementioned porno stash when I was 16. But every cloud has a silver lining. My son lives in Sydney and will hopefully be able to get a couple of steins for his old man and bring them over on his next visit - And that was like when I got a girlfriend at 17 and had less reliance on Dad's stash. 1
porschemad911
My wife bought me a Paulaner 1l can / stein combo from Aldi a few years back. I think I might have used it twice since then (I virtually never use 750ml bottles). Happy to pack it up and post it to you if you like. But you won't get the bonus beer with it unfortunately. Cheers, John 1
Otto Von Blotto
Dan Murphys usually have those litre cans and stein packs too. I got one a few years ago. I think it was $20 but for a litre of beer and a glass I thought it wasn't bad.

Cheers, John Thank you, John. That's very generous of you but not necessary. Luckily for my wife and I, our son actually likes to come back home. He's here currently, goes back to Sydney tonight and then is flying back again on Saturday for his sister's 18th. I've told him to keep the beer, I just want the steins. Even at $14 without the beer is a pretty good buy.

Shamus O'Sean
I reckon I will get me one of these 1L beer 'n' stein packs from Aldi for the same reason Muzzy says. Anyone noticed if any leftover Coopers Craft kits from Father's Day sales at Aldi have been reduced yet?

They are selling the Paulaner unleaded beer here in Queensland. They might as well bundle the stein with that stuff. Just because us people in Qld would turn into raging, homicidal maniacs if Aldi sold alcohol, we should be safe to get the steins though.

Shamus O'Sean
Thanks @porschemad911, Checked my local (Mornington, Vic) and they were still $49.99. They had three kits there so I will keep my eyes open. Cheers Shamus
karlos_1984
@MUZZY just go for a drive to Mildura for the weekend. Get your Stein, then stop at the Woolshed brewery before Renmark and it'd be a useful trip.

There's only 2 things that worry me: 1. If I went to Mildura while I'm supposed to be hosting my daughter's 18th I'd probably find myself living in the van for the rest of my days. 2. I get to Aldi Mildura and they're out of stock. But I definitely will get to the Woolshed one day. Edited September 16, 2019 by MUZZY

Yuley
I arrived home with a Litre stein once. Not sure how it got there (or how I got home) but the night before I was at an Oktoberfest event, and I assume the magical beer fairy delivered it with the hangover.
Otto Von Blotto
It's not a bad beer that Paulaner Oktoberfest. I should get another one but I don't need a heap of the same stein
Shamus O'Sean
Yeah. The Paulaner Oktoberfest was a good beer. I would buy it again. Aldi has at least one other Oktoberfest style beer that would probably be just as good. Hofbräu brand I think.

A good excuse to go there I suppose.
Malter White
Forgetful son didn't bring steins with him last weekend. Luckily he has a not so forgetful girlfriend who brought them over today. FAR OUT!!! I can't believe how big and heavy they are. One litre? I reckon if poured carefully they could fit 2 x 750ml bottles. Not that I'd pour two in one go. Cheers!

So AFL grand final day was test day for the large steins and their impact on flatulence. The anecdotal evidence suggests there was marked reduction in the amount of gas. Tragically there was no improvement in the odour. Cheers!
Otto Von Blotto
I poured three stubbies into one once, 345mL I think they were. It wouldn't have fit another one in. I think the litre mark is about an inch from the top though, because that space is meant to be for the head.
Malter White
This was after I poured a PET long neck into it and before I'd taken a sip. The large head (of the beer) didn't even reach the top ring of the stein. Edited September 29, 2019 by MUZZY 3
Shamus O'Sean
It was funny to pour just one stubbie into mine. It looked like I could swallow the contents in one mouthful 1
Otto Von Blotto
I often find with largeish amounts of foam that once it settles down, the beer level rises a bit too. I still have to get mine from the olds too, probably the only beer glasses I haven't moved over here yet. They'll be handy this weekend having a pool drinking sesh Edited September 30, 2019 by Otto Von Blotto
Thirsty Jim
It is a bit of fun but I found that as a beer glass it makes a terrific flower vase. My reasons ? 1. It is bloody heavy. Even Muzzy's white knuckling his... 2. The volume of the human bladder is between 400 and 600ml. The stein is double the size of the human bladder. It is a glass with an obligatory toilet break --> too much beer.. 3. It takes time to drain the contents (including said toilet break) and the longer it takes to drink the warmer it gets ----> too much beer 4. It is a lethal weapon with a handle. The thought of dozens of German dudes swinging these steins while singing fruity and patriotic songs is bloody terrifying. I agree the beer was pretty good. Ein Prosit. 1

It is a bloody heavy unit but I'm persisting with it's usage. As I get further into a session I tend to use two hands and I'm not a small man - 1.85m and well over 100kgs. The benefits for me have been the reduction of sediment consumption due to pouring a bottle off in one motion and with that the reduction in flatulence. It's a price I must pay. I'll suffer for my art. LOL Ein prosit. Der Gemütlichkeit 2
