Malter White
I've just been out in my garage and found some of the gear I used when I tried homebrewing for the first time....about 20 years ago. This was pre-internet days, so my knowledge was even less than it is now. I brewed by booklets and unsurprisingly I didn't stick at it very long. If you can see the address, Brewmaker isn't even there anymore. They've moved to Holden Hill. The yeast sachets have a code on them of 3292KD. That possibly means something to somebody but it's a mystery to me. Mmmmm fresh.
The Captain!!
It’d be interesting to do a viability test on that yeast!
Otto Von Blotto
Send it over, I have the means to do viability tests
Malter White
Oh bugga!! I've only just seen your replies, Captain & Otto. So sorry. It was only minutes ago I rehydrated the sachets in some warm water to see what would happen. It stank very bad and I quickly threw it down the drain. Otto Von Blotto
If it stank it was probably cooked anyway. When I did a viability test on some few years old Nottingham yeast, I boiled it in the microwave after taking the first sample so I could see what stained dead cells looked like under the microscope. It stunk really bad
