Henry1525229471
Does any one carbonate kegs with sugar as opposed to CO2 I am thinking of giving it a go but I not sure how much sugar to add( 9.5 liter kegs) I have heard you use less sugar than the same amount that you would use if bottling and also seen on utube they where using the same as if bottling I am as usual confused. tja1980
Hi Henry, There are calculators to help brewersfriend.com has them, I too am looking into doing it when the kegerator has 3 kegs in it, I want to naturally carb the kegs waiting in the winter. If you are using beer smith, you can select keg carbonation with corn or table sugar and it will give you the amount. Tristan

AlanT58
I've used 80g dextrose in 19 litre kegs while waiting two to three weeks to mature works fine But make sure you add it very slowly as you'll end up with a volcano like I did the first time

Thanks I’m interested in trying this as well. Have you tried this amount ? And I would treat it just like a big bottle and leave for 3 weeks before tapping ? AlanT58
After adding the dextrose I put in 20 lb let it sit for two to three weeks then went back to 10 lb when it was time to drink it I'm new here don't know what you mean by Purge it

AlanT58
Yep just turn the gas bottle off and release the pressure at the gauge then turn the pressure back up 10 psi
Otto Von Blotto
You can also release the pressure at the keg itself. I do it this way because I usually have more than one keg at a time hooked up to the gas and I don't want to release the pressure in all of them. AlanT58
Clever gotta remember that one I just turn the tap off at the manifold for my other keg so I don't lose pressure in that one
Gus96
as Kelsey said, you release the pressure from the Keg PRV not the gauge otherwise you may have beer coming back up the gas line
AlanT58
Yep that's happened to me also now I know how to fix that thanks
Otto Von Blotto
Just turn the manifold off to the keg you want to release pressure from, release pressure through the valve in the keg lid, then turn that manifold valve back on after resetting the pressure to where you want it. Simpler than turning off the whole cylinder as well as a manifold valve.
AlanT58
Alas my kegs don't have a PRV I have to remove the disconnect and release the pressure through the fitting. Thats why I use the manifold But thanks for the info and sorry for getting off topic
Otto Von Blotto
What kind of kegs are they?
AlanT58
Got them off ebay Ex post mix from usa $32ea Am I allowed to post a link Just looked it up they're PIN lock kornelius
Otto Von Blotto
Yeah links are fine. Pin locks should still have a prv on them somewhere. It's usually in the lid itself, a small cylindrical thing with a pull ring on it, similar to the one on the regulator.
Gus96
the one on the top has the PRV, the other you need to release through the gas post like this https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=15&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=2ahUKEwiYh4PHhOHfAhWLYo8KHaSYAPkQwqsBMA56BAgEEA0&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DUZci91X8DmI&usg=AOvVaw3iAdF25i0zM4cBwk-6g7pD
AlanT58
Yeah I got the 2nd pic No ring pull
Otto Von Blotto
That would get annoying, now I can see why you're releasing it at the regulator. If you only slowly release the pressure you probably won't get any beer going up the gas line.
AlanT58
Could always get modern and change lids
AlanT58
So far beer hasn't made it all the way back to the manifold yet so fingers crossed
