RepSpec
Hey guys I found some yeast at home (us-05) that i had bought this year at some stage and hadnt used it. Its just been sitting in its packet on a shelf...normal house hold conditions. What is its lifespan, should it be stored somewhere better, or has this one past its life? Mark D Pirate
Yeast are amazingly resilient . From memory PB2 had left kit yeast in a freezer for a few years and it still fermented out just fine. Throw it in a vitality starter and see
YeastyBoy
Should be OK. You can test it before pitching. Rehydrate and proof with a bit of sugar. Just in case have a back up plan.
Otto Von Blotto
It should be fine even though the fridge is preferable. Dry yeast aren't as sensitive as liquid yeast in that sense though, they can be left at room temperature without it affecting them too much as long as it isn't something ridiculously hot. Liquid yeast die off pretty quickly at room temp though.
RepSpec
thanks guys... i did a bit of googling and found on fermintis site, to check the best before. If its within that, it should be ok. As long as its not too hot to cold etc
