Smashed Crabs
Finally had some time to put down a second batch of BIAB this time I did a partial with my temps etc being a lot more accurate then my first attempt. Recipe is as follows, 3kg - Ale grain .350g - Carapils .250g Caramalt ( had it sitting around so threw her in) .800g LDM .300g Dextrose Mashed 75 mins @ 67 degrees Hops : Warrior 15g @ 60 min Citra, Cascade, Amarillo 15g each @ 15 min (also added whirlfloc) Citra, Cascade, Amarillo 10g each @ flameout Citra, Cascade, Amarillo 10 g each @ dry hop Yeast : Nottingham Boil 17 Litres finished at 13 litres then topped the FV up to 15 Litres. Hit my estimated SG of 1.081, estimated FG 1.018 ABV - 8.24% Interested to see how this turns out taste wise, just wanted to make a big beer cause I could but next time I will top up to the 20 Litre + mark. James Lao
Nice hop combo mate! Any idea how many IBUs will that be? Cheers James
Smashed Crabs
Hey James, comes out at 67 IBU's. I really need to start tracking my brews a bit better. I usually just hand right them on a bit of paper and stick them on top of the FV. Cheers,
Smashed Crabs
Took a reading of this today and it's come out at 1.012 from 1.081 .. giving me 9.06% or 9.56% when bottled .. bit higher then I anticipated. Question.. If I was to top this up now to lower the ABV will it have any negative affects ? Can top up with my dry hop.
Worthog
This beer looks like a "Cricketers Arms" on steroids. Let us know how it tastes. Cheers
Smashed Crabs
Will do, think I'l let my next AG have a single hop champion it's flavor n aroma ... just checked my stocks n realized I had 13 different hop varieties and think il cut back my IBUs a tad. But yes I enjoy a experiment, lots learned!
Smashed Crabs
Accidently sampled this just now. Grabbed from the wrong box lol only knew since it's undercarbonated from only being in the bottle a week. Flavor wise the trio of flavouring hops work well I think I need to up my dry hopping a bit. Not to bitter but the surprising thing is It doesn't taste like a 9% + beer. The caramalt has given it a deeper colour aswell. I will throw a photo up when it's carbonated properly.
