Another of the same backdrop - Sicilian non-filtered Ichnusa. Not bad. If I’d not come here by plane I’d have taken a cuppla slabs home for the bottles as they are 500ml.

It is a beauty Phil, quite isolated. In high summer it must be busier though. We often take a holiday when it’s the kids’ holiday in October, have a last go for the sun. This year the holiday is in the second half of the month( normally a week earlier) and the season’s over here in the south of Italy . In fact it almost looks like the place was abandoned in a hurry, Zombie Apocalypse or what!
Good job we got a place with cooking facilities, a lot of the restaurants are closed, and what there is offers a limited menu. So cooking duties for me in the evening, but I’m ok with that

To be honest I’m happy to have lunch out but am quite happy to eat in at night, especially when you have a place like this.
The sea’s a bit chilly (19.4, I brought my inkbird thermometer with me) but deffo worth a morning swim to blow away the grappa fumes from the night before

I have seen similar labels here in OZ but it looks like the different countries have their own. There seems to be heaps of them.

Got one of these at Uncle Dan’s. It surely is a beast at 10rpm. Rather brunette for a blonde but who am I to judge Nice beer but way too high ABV for my liking.

Ha ha! I know that one mate, it is a bit much. Although I am into Duvel at 8.5 and their triple hop at 9.5 for some reason some Trappist style ones are a bit too OTT, can be sickly. 
As they say about brunettes and blondes, wouldn’t chuck either out of bed. I mean fridge. Whatever…

Todays Tasting

Brewery = Blackmans Brewery, Victoria
Name of beer = Mr West Coast
Style =  COLDER IPA
ABV = 6.5%


This sensational beer is collaboration brew with the Team at MR West (bar and Bottleshop) in Footscray  Victoria

This beer is sensational using centennial Simcoe and citra hops brewed in a larger ops lager yeast.
Blackmans never fail to surprise me with there beers  and this beer is no exception and quietly the ABV creeps up on you at 6.5%

The hops are no better as they really a punchy hop flavour  and really well balanced and the yeast even though it’s a lager yeast they brewed this one at a warmer temp.   I love the dry finish this one gives and is rather clean.

I am nearly tempted on Saturday to head to Torquay or Geelong to see how this beer rock and rolls on tap  which I think will even be better.

If you can find this in your bottleshop or simply get on blackmans brewery website and buy a 4 pack you wont be disappointed

Ok, sticking with the Belgians. Another one I picked up yesterday. I like Le Chouffe, despite the price tag. The ABV of this one is a little more manageable at 8%. And this Blonde is actually more blonde than the Quadruple I had yesterday. Distinctly wheat, which makes me happy

I agree AK. For some reason the jump from 8 to 10 is a bit much, especially if the brew is a bit heavy. Kinda strange because I find Duvel, La Chouffe, Karmeliter and Chimey blue fine but some of the other ones a bit much. Although I like Westmalle dubble (7°) a lot, the triple at 10° is a bit much and it conks me out...

First tasting of Brew A. It was bottled on 12th September. Nicely carbonated already (didn’t over do the secondary carbonation sugar because I want to age it a bit). Got great potential but would use a bit of bottle conditioning. Looking forward to it around Christmas

Currently on a sightseeing trip of Tasmania and I stumbled across this craft brewery along the wharfs in Hobart. They had a large range of beers but the first one I tried was so good I stuck with it and didn't try any others. I think it was called Iron Pot Rye Porter and 4.8%, nitrogen carbonated. Smooth as silk.

I haven't actively sought out the breweries because there's a lot to see here but had a couple of quiet ones at the pictured HBC and also had an excellent meal and pale ale at a brew pub on Salamanca Parade called The Whaler's Return.

Dining quality here is as good as Adelaide, if not better. Even a pub meal I had last night (Doctor Syntax Hotel) was the freshest squid I've ever eaten from a restaurant or pub anywhere.

that place there used to be formerly owned by Bob Clifford who Builds  boats  as in incat before making them in Prince of wales bay   Next door to the Zinc factory  

and they have some nice beers there 2

 is a very old pub that was named by Reverend Robert Knopwood  and was given whalers Returned  As Salamance was where the whalers would come in and dock and would head to for a Beer or or 2 after  catching whales.

Then the Whalers returned had a name change by the former owner (she ran a great pub for alot of years that attracted all kinds of life  as it was an easy place to meet for people in Hobart  wanting to head out for a bit of nightlife wether that was clubbing in the city or heading to few night clubs down Sandy Bay and Battery point (formerly St IVes)  and to the Casino)

To most of our Generations until recent owner took over it was either Known as Knoppies Retreat or just Knoppies.
The Lady  i cant think what her name was now but she  battling and couldnt keep the doors open  and was looking like a great pub  was going to shut the doors until the current owner Ben Hickey took over and changed the Name Back to Whalers Return

Now  Dr Syntax Hotel on Sandy Bay Road back in its time this place had a bad reputation as it was mainly a nightlife pub and attracted the sort of people that liked a bit of Biffo... However though  in more recent times new owners new chefs etc  This place  picked up and has attracted the right clientle and is great little pub now  with great food..

There is a pub basicly on the corner of Elizebeth street mall and Collins street  it was called back when i lived there  the Ship hotel (now the central hotel).    After Work i would occasionly pop in here for a couple of ales or 2 while waiting for a bus home.   You could sit at the open windows and have a beer... what i would do   is glue a few 50 cent pieces to the footpath  and would  have a wallet sitting in the gutter with a bit of cat gut..  it was heaps funny watching the  passers by fall for this trick
