Henry1525229471
I have made a HLTmade out of a 40 ltr keg but I am having problems controlling the temps I am running the sparge water into a jug and then having to adjust the temp with cold or more hot it,s giving me the shits. I have been on to the comp but cant find anything that is any good I want a controller that the element will plug into and have a thermocouple that will hang down inti the HLT but I don't want to spend a fortune if it costs to much I might as well just buy a grainfather water urn . Otto Von Blotto
You could use an stc1000 or an inkbird controller. Should work fine.

I thought the temp probe would not be able to handle the heat I was thinking 80 degrees C and
Otto Von Blotto
They're rated to 100°C, or 99°C but close enough. Certainly high enough for what you're using it for.

porschemad911
Are you having trouble with your strike water temp, or only sparge water temp? If it's only the sparge, I wouldn't worry about it at all, doesn't really matter what temp the sparge water is at. Cheers, John
Henry1525229471
thanks Porchmad I thought the sparge water temp was important I am glad to hear its not because that is the problem as for the strike temp I have got trhree temps to choose from the displayed temp, the thermo in the mash and the temp coming out of the recirculating pipe all different
