porschemad911
Brew something with pilsner malt (or whatever else you want to call very pale malt), solid bitterness, plenty of hop flavour and aroma, ferment with a lager yeast strain and you've got a yourself some sort of pilsner. Localise it all you like, the more the merrier! Cheers, John
Otto Von Blotto
I don't have a problem with NZ Pils per se, what I have a problem with is removing the name pilsner from the original pilsner style and replacing it with some boring generic shit like "premium pale lager". That is absolutely bloody stupid.

porschemad911
Well isn't that what they call it in Czech? I thought only Pilsner Urquell was typically referred to as 'pilsner' over there? There are some interesting Good Beer Hunting podcasts on the road in Czech which talk about this. Cheers, John

Cheers, John Pilsner Urqell simply means the original pilsner ........ the original czech name was also Plzeňský Prazdroj which in translation can mean "ancient origin/source of Pilsner"
BobbyBoy
Morning guys, just wondering how you feel it would turn out if I followed this recipe but swapped the Hops to Saaz. Otto Von Blotto
It would work fine I would think. I brew lagers with both those hops (in separate recipes), but the malt bills aren't much different to each other and they both work very well. I'd give it a go. So I thought I’d try it. Just gotta wait for the bar fridge to make it to my door.
BobbyBoy
Looks like the pale malt is out of stock. Does the coopers website take long to get stock back in?
Otto Von Blotto
No idea, I never order from it you could probably use a tin of coopers pale extract from the brew shop, or to get it more Euro like if you can get briess Pilsen extract that would work well too. BobbyBoy
Yea I might go the Briess. I know where I can get some, so that makes it a bit easier.
