Mikes15
Keen to give this a go, Im ordering my next lot of bits soon so could bundle it in. Question though, LHBS have Weyermann Carafa Special T1, T2 & T3, I take it were talking T3 = III here? Also, 2 weeks conditioning for a porter? PS - coopers, I cant order your kits as im not in AU but $55 for a can lager kit, 500g of LDM & a bag of sugar drops, surely the "you provide, grains, hops & yeast" is a missprint?? Otto Von Blotto
That yeast doesn't seem to know what it is either. Saflager Ale yeast?

ROTM packs have everything in them - the recipe is written for when it's no longer a current ROTM. Yes, S-23 is lager yeast - I'll let 'em know about the error. Didn't really read "Schwartzbier is a dark German lager" just saw "a very approachable beer whatever port you’re in" & thought it was a pun on it being a Porter!! The Recipe states:- Recipe contains: 1 × European Lager (1.7kg) 3 × Coopers Light Dry Malt (500g) 1 × Coopers Carbonation Drops (250g) You supply: 1 × 300g Carafa lll Malt Grains 1 × 200g Crystal Malt Grains 1 × 25g Hallertau Mittlefrueh Hop Pellets 1 × 11.5g Saflager S-23 Yeast
Dipsomaniac
I made a good dark lager once. I used the Coopers Pilsner can but used two of the yeasts and fermented at lager temps. The Coopers Pilsner yeast is an actual lager yeast and it’s not bad. I also used about 100g of roasted barley instead of carafa or crystal malts. Turned out nice. Beer Baron
I have the ingredients to do an all grain schwarzbier. It sounds like an interesting style and I am pumped to brew/taste it
Mikes15
Under way this morn, Looking forward to quick brew that doesnt need days of dry hop or a week of cold crashing, also not tried anything quite like a dark lager before. The malt / hop tea was like treacle so can only imagine how strong the flavours are going to be!
Mikes15
5 days 1052 - 1014, BOOM Couple more days, looking like it will need a C/crash though, muddy water runs deep,,,,,,

Mikes15
Had a glass of this left after bulk priming so gave it a bash, bloody delicious even un-carbonated. Smooth, malty, chocolaty, slightly bitter but also quite light drinking, going to be a rippa
Mikes15
Hats off to Coopers on this one, its an absolute blinder Mines slightly under carbed but not enough to worry, I bulk primed 130g as per mid range for the style but just not gasses up much & not really got a head. Its very light / easy to drink, refreshing like any good lager or pilsner an yet dark rich & full of chocolate / coffee & malt flavors. The only problem with it is its very hard not to want another!
