Well after 3 years and a few holidays and house moves for family and friends, the bus transmission has sh1t itself again. I don't think to the same extent as when I first bought it with a clapped out clutch. It appears to be an electrical fault of some kind and the gears just won't engage. It has a push button gear changing set up.
The last few months had been reasonably good financially and we'd been making some massive dents in our debt levels. I guess it was too good to be true. Back to the garage we go. 😞

Mr Muzz, sorry to hear of your car troubles.  First thing I would check are all the fuses.  These things require power to relays and sensors and if they are not getting any power the relays will not fire.  Check your battery terminals as the transmission may have its own supply from the battery via the appropriate fuse.  Do you have a user  manual for it.  It will list the relays used for the transmission and you should hear them click when gear buttons are pressed.  You may need someone else to listen closely for you while you do this.

Next would be the connectors underneath where they attach to the transmission.   Can you get to the electrical connections on the transmission as it could just be an oxidized connector/s.  I had a Ford wagon once and it use to play up something shocking,  oil pressure gauge would not work, speedo jumped all over the place a volt meter looked like it was possessed by the devil.

What I did to fix that was remove all the electrical connections one at a time and re-plug them several times to scrape of any oxidized layer on the connecting pins.  Do them one at a time so you know where to plug them back again. ha ha..

I would be careful disconnecting the main battery because if your van has a theft tamper radio it will loose the pin code and will not work after that.  Way around that is to plug a standard 9V battery with cigarette lighter attachment into the accessories wiring via the cigarette lighter socket on the dash  This 9v will hold the radios pin code intact whilst the main battery is disconnected (if you want to do that).

Hey BS, as you may or may not be aware I work in the TV and Film game professionally. Can I just say mate, that your pic is stunning. I'd be happy to have that hanging on my wall at home.

Cheers!  The 2022 desk calendar should be out soon...  not exactly  "a hang on the wall" release, but I'm sure it would happily grace anyones desk.  😁

Mr Muzz, according to this ford forum there is an electric motor on the gear change pack of these setups and they are known to burn out at about 200,000 km.  Good news is apparently they can be rewound by a competent auto electrician.  That's of course if yours is the same model and same problem as per that thread.  Good luck getting it going matey.

@iBooz2 Thanks Al. Unfortunately I didn't read your responses until now. I've been back to the van and disconnected the batteries and hoped a reset might occur. It didn't. Still have the same issue. I'll get it towed to Rowell and Searle and have them fix it. They fixed it previously when even a transmission specialist and a Ford dealership couldn't.

PS. It's no surprise my van has done just over 200K.

I had the RAA come out today. The photo below was the diagnosis by his little computer thingy he plugged in under the bus steering wheel. I'm really struggling somewhere in Adelaide who can fix it. My expert at Rowell and Searle has retired and they don't have anyone that can do the job.

Hey Muzz, bad luck with your expert retiring, how dare he.

Still sound like the electric motor on the hydraulic pump (HPU) has failed as I mentioned before.  See forum comments below.  You can remove the HPU motor without having to drain or bleed the hydraulic pipes/system.  Unbolt the pump and take it to a good auto electrics man and get him to re-build that HPU motor.

as i bought 2 of these vans - must be something wrong with me but they where cheap - and now i know for a reason

these hpu motors tend to fail around the 200 000 km mark

the give away is it wont start or when driving gets stuck in gear- real headache

as you do you get online and search which brought me to this site

the best thing i found is the hpu electric motor an be serviceable as not a sealed unit

you can remove it without discontenting the hydraulic hoses of the gearbox so no bleeding

i ve done it a couple of times now and takes less than 30 min to remove

i found a auto rewinder and he serviced it like changed the brushes and new bearings - cost me $180

hope this helps anyone and puts your mind at rest alittle before being cash raped

I went to the Oakbank races yesterday for the first time in a few years. There's no jumps racing these days in SA and with it's demise it appears the crowds have vanished from what was once a major event. Easter Saturday and Monday used to pull attendances of 40K and 70K respectively. I would guess yesterday there would have been lucky to have been 5,000 there. A bit sad.
Even though the jumps have gone there was still protesters outside the front gate. One woman was waving a placard:
DON'T BET ON CRUELTY!
So I said to her, "Do you know the trainer? What race is it in?"
She didn't laugh.🤣

I haven't been to Oakbank for ages, mainly due to the traps set by SAPOL to get out, it's like a "Smokey & the Bandit" scene with all of the police forcing all cars into their breathalysers. I realise they are doing their job but unless you have a dedicated driver you can only risk 3-4 drinks.

My wife was designated driver for the day and we got pulled over by an unmarked patrol for a RBT. She was zero so no problem.

I've been in the past but to be honest without jumps races like the Great Eastern etc I'm not interested anymore.
