Thanks
rossm
...fail i would think Jared! There are many recipes and suggestions for alterations to kits on this site, most have been tried and the results posted for all to see, this helps brewers by not having to waste ingredients and time to find out what someone else has already found! I would suggest you stick fairly closely to the instructions for the first few brews, ask or read and as you get more experience start to experiment yourself, it would be a shame to start having failures from the start and decide to stop brewing because of it....patience is a virtue...best of luck with your brewing journey

Slurtis Staggersalot
I've been following the instructions pretty closely, since I started brewing and I've found that sometimes what the can calls for isn't beside it on the shelf (usually brew enhancer or LDM) when that happens I just use dextrose in its place and it seems to work out fine. Muddy Waters
I agree with Ross. While the recipes and instructions are certainly flexible I think by using 2 cans + doubling the extra fermentables without increasing the total volume would be a recipe for disappointment. PB2
High Gravity Brewing can be done at our micro level but probably a good idea, if just starting out, to run with the recommended recipes.
ChrisK
So on the same topic. if I had a 60 litre fermenter and doubled every ingredient, including the water and yeast, that'd work, right?
Slurtis Staggersalot
Sure it would work, you would just need more bottles. I'm not an expert but it's not rocket science...or is it?[biggrin]
Muddy Waters
If you double all ingredients but only use half of each you should be able to get by with a 30L fermentor. [rightful]
ChrisK
Sorry if it was a dumb question. I wasn't sure everything increased at the same rates - i.e. would one packet of yeast have been enough
Muddy Waters
Sorry Chris - just taking the piss[wink] Never stop asking questions mate (even if some may attract smartarses)...if I stopped asking dumb questions I wouldn't have much to say. Troshink
Hello. I recently purchased the Coopers Vintage Ale 2014 recipe of the month kit. I have 2 questions: 1- I have an unused Coopers Real Ale can. The recipe calls for 1 Real ale and 1 Australian pale ale can. I want to use 2 Real ale cans and save the Australian pale ale can for another time. Is this ok, or what effect would this change have on the brew result? 2- Do I use both yeast packets supplied in the cans along with the special yeast that came with the kit? Thanks. ben 10
Hello. 2 reals will possibly be more bitterer and a tad darker. I would make the recipe as per spec and use the real ale for something else. I would use only the yeast that came with the pack.
