How often do you brew?

I just wondered how often you folks put down brews? unsure

I've been reasonably productive I think; I've been at it for around 14-15 months now and though I didn't keep any kind of record early on I reckon I've done around 50-55 brews now, mostly motivated by curiosity. It's also a little alarming too - given that it I also drank the majority of it! surprised

I put down between 30 and 33L each fortnight. 10L into my BrewArt system and then between 20 - 23L into the Coopers FV.

I am still building up stocks so my consumption is not that high. Once i have built up stocks I may take a break or do some smaller batches.

Brewing itself is sporadic for me due to using the no-chill method with all grain. Sometimes I brew 3 or 4 batches in one week in order to stockpile them to free up time on weekends, other times I brew one every 2-3 weeks, usually on Saturdays.

Fermenting on the other hand is constant. I usually run to a schedule of 1 lager then two ales for each batch of 3 kegs, in order to give the lager the longest conditioning time of the three before it is tapped. So on average it's probably one every 3 weeks or so, but in real time it's the lager for 4 weeks, then two ales at about 2.5 weeks each.

Last year I brewed 19 batches for 452 litres worth. This year so far I've brewed 4 batches for about 100 litres. Of the four brewed this year only two are fermented so far though.

Cheers

Kelsey

I have 2 FV in some stage of brewing and another being soaked. My current process is around 2 weeks from brew to bottle, so I bottle every week.

Had to buy a box 2 weeks ago to build up a bit of stock!

Once I get another fridge, I'll step it up to 3 FV brewing so I can let the beer age a bit more..

I love my beer and can honestly say I think I out do Blacksands.

Sounds like it! And I think I'll actually be winding back my production. Last year I was so keen to try so many things - a variety of styles and ingredients and ended up with a bit of a stock pile by the end of the year. I'll be a little more focused in 2017 and concentrate more on what I now know I like and instead work at refining those particular brews. cool

In the process of doing a Weissbier. It's sitting cooling at the moment.

Honestly, if I could put down one a fortnight I'm probably lucky. As an oldie pensioner, the reddies have a lot of control over what I can do. Mean, I've got 6 FVs, but need to be able to afford the goodies to go in them.

I think I'm getting in front, and then shit happens and I can't afford the next lot. Would love to go AG and then maybe I could brew enough to get me in front. But for now, I brew as often as I can afford. Gotta keep "her inside" happybiggrin

Cheers

Since starting this journey in September 2015 it would be just a bit more than one a month (19).

I am away from home for about 5 months a year and can't drink when I am at work so I make up for it when I am home haha.

Nothing crazy, don't seem to get blind drunk or anything, just around 3 steady bottles a night.

The FV's are usually only empty for a week as I need to keep production going, so I don't run out of beer.

My goal last year was to not buy a carton and be self sufficient, which I achieved.

Had to buy some cartons in January though because we went away for Christmas, so no brewing ..

I usually try to keep a record in my iPhone of all the brews and recipes etc

I should have a running spreadsheet, but haven't got round to it yet.

Love my brew nights and bottling nights as well.

Can't beat the satisfaction of really enjoying the flavour of a beer you have made your self.

Only doing extracts and steeping at the moment, would love to go AG, but don't have the time with 2 young kids and the missus always finding jobs for me haha.!

One day though...

Cheers

James

Holy moly' date=' do you drink all that yourself? Please tell me they're not 60L batches!![/quote']He brews 23L batches Ruddy, but yeah still a lot of beer.

It was interesting reading the other recent thread on how many we drink and seeing so many drinking 3 or 4 or 6 beers every night. If I did that I'd never keep up with demand and would end up buying beer half the time anyway.

Currently consuptiom is down cause working Sydney Monday- Friday. 2 kegs left from 6. This weekend will keg English bitter and next weekender Kelsey's Ace of spades Porter. Running tight on kegs. Am convinced I can Finnish a keg on Saturday but have tried to do this on many occasions. Ended up hammered and still drinking same beer next day. My brewing schedule has dropped from 1 per week to 1 per fortnight.

I brew 2 x 23 litre batches every two weeks, missed one fortnight over xmas and once when we went on holidays biggrin.

I do love the quality of the home brews but also love the cost savings of brewing my own.. Now to pull out some math, which is sort of interesting when you look at it.

Brew: 92 litres a month

= 1104 litres a year. rolleyes

= 122 cartons a year

Cost to buy 122 cartons $5490

Cost to brew $1800

Cost for me to setup with kegs etc $1000

I didnt realise we drank so much until I just did that... hahaha

My first 2 years back home brewing I averaged a little over 40 x 23 litre brews a year. The last 2-3 years for varying reasons I've backed off a little to be around the 30's annually. I brew on a need to basis, & don't stockpile beer as I mainly brew hoppy pale ales that drink well fresh.

Cheers,

Lusty.

It looks like I've brewed the equivalent of 16 standard 23l brews over the past year, with the last 2 yet to be touched (not enough time in bottle), and about another 160 longnecks stashed under the stairs.

Apparently we spend too much time out, socialising and tasting, to get really stuck into the home product!

just started brewing this year and already have 3 brews bottled and sitting in the garage.

90 long necks!

might have a break in brewing with all this hot weather in melbourne. But i really want to try a pale ale with hops added! Might have to sneak that in without the missus seeing!

Winter time is my preferred and most active time to brew,

Ive got lots of travel planned this year including 2 months in the southern states USA, CAJUN cooking here I come baby...

I'm on batch 48 after 25 months, so almost one brew a fortnight. I have two brew fridges which helps with this.. That's 3120 330mls or 130 slabs

So if I was drinking all of that myself it would be almost 5 X 330ml beers a day.

As it is, I have one 330ml beer a day on average, being two AFD's during the week and two beers a day sat + sunday. Sometimes blows out to three. on a sunday.

So I give away the other 4/5ths to my dad, my three brothers, people at work, people in my street etc. That means I can brew more and experiment more with new beers and techniques to ramp up my learning curve, as well as buy 25kg bags of grain, and hops in bulk, making the batches pretty cheep

I need to start keeping better track of my brewing activity as well. Especially since starting to experiment with more kits and bits and extract recipes. Think it's about 30 batches since I started. I typically brew every 2-3 weeks to keep the stocks up.
