butl5737
Hi there I am just getting started with home brewing. For my girlfriend's 24th birthday I am home brew with a Coopers DIY kit. She wants it to be a Blackberry Lager and I purchased blackberry brewing flavoring off of amazon to add to the fermenter. My question is when do I add the fruit flavoring to the fermenter? People have told me to add it with the malt extract and yeast but I've also heard to add it 3-4 days before bottling.
ChristinaS1
I'd add it any time the airlock stops. If you add it at the begiing the aroma may be blown off with the CO2 during the active phase of fermentation. Be careful with how much of that stuff you add, as too much may ruin your beer, especially a light beer like a lager. I'd be inclined to only use part of a bottle, maybe 1/4....I've only used a bottle of flavouring once, when I made the Choc Liqueur Stout recipe, and I found it very overpowering, and that was in a stout. Cheers, Christina.
