HaydnC
Hi, have just bottled my first batch of Pilsner, Saturday 24th April. Used the 750ml Coopers bottles, and 2 carbonation drops. The bottles have been in a steady 21 degrees since then but there is apparently no carbonation activity, i.e. bottle doesn't seem any firmer to the touch and the dissolved carbonation drops can still be seen suspended at the bottom of the bottle. Primary ferment was 2 weeks in about 21 degrees, bottled at FG of 1006 and it was pretty well clear - I'm thinking that maybe there wasn't enough suspended yeast to allow conditioning? I haven't tried inverting the bottle yet given it advises not to do so with the carb drops. What do you think or am I just impatient!
Bud
Hi HaydnC, It is not necessary to invert bottles primed with carbonation drops as they tend to dissolve easily, but it wont hurt them either. In this situation it would be a good idea to invert them at least once to remix the suspended yeast with the sugar. Give that a go and try one in about nine days, I bet they fizz for sure! Muddy Waters
Yeah what Bud said Haydn - coupled with a dash of patience :)
LarryR
I had the same problem with a coopers bitter because my house may have gotten to cold. I shook the the bottles and waited a week and they are now carbonated.
