Salvo85
Hi guys. I'm salvatore and i'm happy to stay in coopers' family. This is my first post. I've a question. I bought an european lager kit but, for work, I didn't have time to cook it. It is expired in 26 november 2016 (two weeks ago). Can i cook it? Thanks
Farls
I reckon it will be absolutely fine mate, 2 weeks past the best before date is no problem. Even a couple of months would be fine, I've done a few like that.
JohnBoy
keep in mind that the EU lager kit has a actual lager yeast with it, so for yeast of that age it might be a good idea to rehydrate the yeast before pitching it to give it the best chance of success... ChristinaS1
Hi Salvo, and welcome to the forum. Do you have a brew fridge? I am guessing you don't, based on how early you are in your brewing career. Anyway, lagers are best left to those with a brew fridge, or winter time brewing, as they ought to be fermented cool. If you don't have a brew fridge, no worries, you can still ferment the kit using an ale yeast (chuck the kit yeast out). If you can to keep the fermentation temp below 21C, buy a pack of US-05. If you can't keep the temp below 21C, best to buy some Coopers dry ale yeast, or Saison yeast (if you like Saisons). Cheers. Christina.
Otto Von Blotto
It's not that much out of date so it should still be ok. You probably don't want to cook it though!
