  1. I have had similar problems with different beers. Think it is washing glasses in dishwasher causing it. Going to try washing glasses in dishwasher at 70c without detergent. Will chuck in some stubbies at the same time.
  2. Hi I could be interested in the fermentation chamber/keezer how much are you asking? Could you please advise size of the unit. Where in South Brisbane are you? I am in Pottsville nsw.

  4. I have a Kogan blender for coffee a short burst on grain should work.
  5. Thanks, where can I get Starsan? or Stellarsan? I do have Napisan Vanish stain remover.
  6. I was using Milton when I first noticed the problem. It is recommended for sterilising baby's bottles and they claim it does not need rinsing. when it first occurred I started rinsing thoroughly. But the taste remained. I then switched to a pink bottle steriliser sold by Border Brewing Tweed Heads. This was fine with glass bottles but the problem arose with the PET bottles. my last brew was Coopers Amber Ale with no hops added. Have tried two bottles from that batch and while it is drinkable I wouldn't offer it to a guest.
  7. I plan to do a trial with PET V Glass bottles with my next brew. I always rinse bottles after use with hot tap water then cold water. Replace the caps on the PET and cover glass with glad wrap to prevent contamination. I then sanitise and rinse before filling.
  8. I had an old fridge that I used to brew my beer in,using an Inkbird to control the temp in the summer. The NSW Govt have a scheme where they exchange old fridges for new more efficient ones for 50% discount. My wife wants to use the freezer on the new fridge which means I cant brew in the controlled fridge. The weather is cooler now and I wonder if I can use the Inkbird to control the heater belt?
  9. Some time ago I switched to PET bottles as they were more convenient to carry in the caravan. After a while I stared getting an antiseptic taste in my brews. I blamed it on the hops I had started to use so tried a brew without hops being added. This did not help. I then blamed the sanitizer that I was using and was very careful to rinse thoroughly before bottling. No help. I switched back to using glass bottles and pink sanitizer for cleaning bottles. This seemed to work so I tried another brew using the PET bottles with Pink sanitiser and still getting the antiseptic type taste. Could it be the PET bottles ageing causing this problem.
  10. I used to use dish washer when I used glass stubbies. I switched to PET bottles and used Milton for sanitising.. This worked fine but recently after brewing with added hops I was sometimes getting what I believe was the "band aid taste" My wife claimed I wasn't cleaning and rinsing properly. Many years ago I had a unit made from PVC that used PBW . Was very happy with this so I plan to make a unit that is powered with a bilge pump. It will handle 12 bottles at a time and fits inside a green plastic basket. Similar to those on YouTube .
